Ten Commandment

After arguing for hours, a couple drove along in silence. Suddenly they passed a barnyard filled with mules and jackasses. Sarcastically, the husband asked, 'Relatives of yours?' The wife replied, 'Yes, in-laws.' Marriage was God's idea, and it was a good one. Picking up the theme, Jesus said, 'A man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife.' In marriage, 'two's company, three's a crowd!' 

So here are Ten Commandments for being a good in-law: 

(1) Thou shalt love, honour and respect the couple.

(2) Thou shalt grant them independence, resisting the urge to show them 'a better way' of doing things.

(3) Thou shalt be loyal and not criticise them, for, '...That critical spirit has a way of boomeranging...' (Matthew 7:2 TM).

(4) Thou shalt not find fault: 'Don't...jump on their failures...unless...you want the same treatment...' (Matthew 7:1 TM).

Spice Girls: can’t agree on musicals.

Mel B and Mel C are reportedly struggling to agree on details for the upcoming Spice Girls musical. The production has been in the works since early 2010 and will feature the British girl band's biggest hits. Theatre producer Judy Craymer is working on it, having previously lent her services to Mamma Mia! The script is being penned by comedienne Jennifer Saunders, but is apparently taking longer than was first thought. Victoria Beckham, Emma Bunton, Geri Halliwell, Mel B and Mel C are supposed to be heavily involved in the musical. However, the two Mels apparently are not seeing eye to eye. "Melanie Brown [Scary Spice] and Melanie Chisholm [Sporty Spice] can't agree on anything," a source told New York Post. "It's driving Jennifer crazy."

New Software to Detect Lies.

You are in a habit of lying, mind it now a computer can catch your lie and can throw you in trouble. This all is being claimed by the scientists from the University of Buffalo, who have recently highlighted in their statements of developing new software with the help of which the computer can catch the lie immediately.
The newly developed software has been especially designed to read the subject's eyes to efficiently monitor all the movements of the pupils and determine when the subject is lying or faking.
The above findings are out only after several thorough readings of numerous recorded conversations, which included both truth and lies too. The team of scientists ran the experiment through software and even double checked the findings of the program with a trained human interrogator following which; they noticed that the software and its results were highly accurate with 82.5 percent (even more than the 65 percent false statement ratio that the specially trained examiner identified).
"What we wanted to understand was whether there are signal changes emitted by people when they are lying & can machines detect them?" 'Daily Mail' quoted Prof Ifeoma Nwogu as saying.
Several other studies are still ongoing by the computer scientists at the University of Buffalo (UB; Buffalo, NY, USA) to determine the success rate of machine’s reading of visual cues to uncover all the lies.
During the study, total 40 videotaped conversations were studied with the newly developed automated system, which gave 82.5 percent success rate after reading the subject’s eye movements and identifying when the interview subjects were telling truth or lying.
The researchers explained that the theory behind the study and its findings stands the statistical technique that people usually follow to move their eyes in two different situations i. e. when they talk truth and when they field a question designed to prompt a lie.

Playing Football Match Boosts Men's Testosterone Levels

Playing a game of football has been found to give a boost to men's testosterone levels - helping to increase their sex drive. Scientists discovered players had a 30 per cent leap in the sex hormone immediately after a football game.
And even an hour after they had finished playing, their testosterone levels were still 15 per cent higher than normal.  Footballer who played in forward roles in the matches tended to see the biggest boost, regardless of their age, the study found.
They studied farmers in the remote Tsimane tribe in Bolivia because men there generally have much less testosterone. Tsimane men maintain a stable amount of testosterone across their lifespans and show little incidence of obesity, heart disease and other illnesses linked with older age. 
Similar increases have been shown in men living in the U.S. and other industrialized nations following sporting competitions. And it may go some way to explaining why so many famous footballers get caught up in sex scandals.

“It was big for me,” the mother-of-four said. “She’s incredible, and also an artist that I have so much respect for. I’m a huge, huge Beyoncé fan.”

Opera releases new Android browser

After losing much share to its competitors, Norwegian browser maker Opera released its latest product for Google’s Android platform, beefing it up with support for new technologies.

 Opera added camera, HTML5 and 3D graphics support to its Opera Mini 7 browser, in an apparent bid to get back some lost share of the browser usage pie, TechCrunch reported.

 “New features include the ability to create an unlimited number of bookmarks (‘Speed Dials’) to quickly go to your favorite URLs — before there had been a limit of nine. This new version now also includes camera support, as well as better support for HTML5 sites’ functionality through its Ragnarök technology. It is also adding WebGL support, for 3D functionality. WebGL is used in the development of cross-platform games,” Tech Crunch said.

It noted Android, had overtaken Opera as the world’s largest mobile browser.

Earth Hour: Light shut down around the world

ON MARCH 31, at 8.30pm local time, lights around the world will be switched off for 60 minutes in support of International Earth Hour, which is an annual international event organised by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) to raise awareness on climate change.
In honour of Earth Hour, businesses, individuals and governments will switch off their lights, including those on some of the world’s most famous monuments, for 60 minutes.

Earth Hour is preceded by World Water Day (March 22) and followed by International Earth Day (April 22). The latter is aimed at promoting awareness on our environment and climate change.

UK: Petrol Hike amid strike threat !!!

Sales of petrol and diesel have increased dramatically as motorists flocked to garages to fill up following controversial advice from the Government ahead of a possible strike by fuel tanker drivers.

Petrol sales shot up by 81% and diesel by 43%, according to the Petrol Retailers Association, which represents around 5,500 garages across the UK.

A spokesman blamed advice from the Government on keeping tanks topped up, including the much-criticized call by Cabinet Office Minister Francis Maude to fill up jerry cans.

"This is exactly what we didn't want - people panic buying. Deliveries are still being made to garages and we are advising people to continue with their normal buying habits."

Moves to start peace talks aimed at averting a strike will be stepped up, with the conciliation service Acas trying to arrange a meeting between the Unite union and seven companies involved in the dispute. Unite will have to give seven days' notice of any industrial action, so it was looking increasingly unlikely that strikes will be threatened over Easter.

The World Bank is the premier global institution that provides support to Developing Countries, and is a major player in addressing wide-ranging global development issues. It is therefore an institution of great importance to Africa, and has been a principal partner in assisting the continent’s socio-economic transformation, consistent with its core mission.

The crux of development issues in the world today really resides in Africa, and therefore, the success of the World Bank in achieving its mandate will be judged, to a large extent, by its accomplishments on the continent. It will also be judged by the degree to which it is able to complement its lending and technical assistance and advisory activities with facilitation support for knowledge sharing among developing countries, through effective South-South exchanges to tackle issues of common interest. Finally, the AUC believes that an effective World Bank must continue to play a proactive role, jointly with other partners, in tackling global economic growth and financial stability issues in a volatile and uncertain world, as well as provide leadership in the domain of global public goods, such as environment and climate change. For this purpose, the World Bank needs to have at its helm someone with deep knowledge, broad experience and expertise in a wide range of development issues. It also needs someone who has proven capable, over the years, of working effectively both at the local, national and international levels, and in connecting the different parts to foster synergy and complementarity.

NIMA Predicts 236 days of Intense Rainfall for Lagos

Lagos State government on Tuesday put the residents on alert over expected random heavy rainfall in the state for 236 days this year.

Tunji Bello, the state commissioner for the environment, who stated this in Ikeja, the state capital, based his revelation on forecast by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency, using the seasonal rainfall predictions instrument.

Following the disclosure, residents who spoke with BusinessDay expressed worries, and called on the state government to intensify efforts towards ensuring drainages and canals are cleared to avoid heavy flooding during the year.

Google Lunches Digital Archive on Nelson Mandela

JOHANNESBURG - Google, in partnership with the Nelson Mandela Centre of Memory (NMCM), launched a digital archive on Nelson Mandela today.
The annals include over 1,900 unique images, documents and videos and will continue to grow over time, said Mr Luke Mckend, country manager for Google, South Africa.
The digital records house Mr Mandela's correspondence with family, comrades, and friends, as well as diaries written in his 27-year imprisonment on Robben Island and notes he made while leading negotiations that led to the end of Apartheid in South Africa.
The archive will also have the earliest-known photograph of Mr Mandela, rare images of his prison cell and never-seen drafts of Mr Mandela's manuscripts for his autobiography "Long Walk to Freedom".
Mr Steve Crossan, director of the Google Cultural Institute said: "The Mandela Digital Archive Project shows how the Internet can help preserve historical heritage and make it available to the world. We've worked closely with the NMCM to create an interactive online experience with powerful search and browsing tools, so that users can explore Mr Mandela's inspiring life story."
Google gave the NMCM US$1.25 million (S$) to preserve and digitise thousands of archival documents, photographs and videos about Mr Mandela in 2011. The archive can be found on http://archive.nelsonmandela.org.

Okonjo-Iweala: Job Creation Tops her Priority List if Selected as W/Bank President

The Finance Minister and the Coordinating Minister for the economy, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala on Tuesday rolled out her mission for the World Bank, indicating that creating jobs for the world’s young people would be her priority if finally selected for the top job. At a press conference to officially announce her nomination for the strongly contested World Bank Group Presidential post, Iweala stated that she is very qualified to head the global institution, irrespective of the concerns that the America’s interest in the job remained her greatest challenge.
She jointly briefed the media with Mukhtar Mansur, the Former Finance Minister and the current alternate Executive Director of the World Bank.
Her words,“Let me say that given the opportunity, I have an advantage of knowing the strengths and weaknesses of the institution being somebody who has managed a complex economy in a developing country.

Microsoft might launch Windows 8 this October

Software giant, Microsoft might be planning to finish the work on the development of its new Windows 8 Operating System this summer and roll out the new version in October 2012.
According to people closer to the matter, the release will include devices running Intel and ARM chips as the company had said that the new version will be compatible with both the standards. However, there will be only about five ARM devices at launch compared to more than 40 Intel machines.
The Redmond, Washington-based company has not announced a time frame for the launch of the new version of Windows. The company had released the Consumer Preview version of Windows 8 at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain.

It was an amazing mix of music on Nigerian Idol last weekend as the four remaining contestants on the show performed some songs of American billboard top 100 of all time. With Honey out of the race, it was up to Joe Blue, Najite, Mercy and Stephen Onochie to vie for the title of Nigerian Idol.

The judges  Jeffrey Daniel, Yinka Davies and Charly Boy were joined by West African Idol winner Timi Dakolo who prepared the audience with a superb rendition of his song ‘Cry’. Ditching his signature pose, Joe Blue kicked off his performances in grand style with a subtle rendition of Adele’s ‘Set Fire to the Rain’. For his second performance, he bounced as he performed Amy Winehouse’s hit, ‘Rehab’ with his usual dramatic flourish.
