Globacom and Manchester United have pledged to continue supporting the development of football in Africa.
Making this known during the presentation of a souvenir by officials of Manchester United to the Chairman of Globacom, Dr. Mike Adenuga in Lagos yesterday, Globacom’s Executive Director, Human Resources,Adewale Sangowawa said the partnership that exists between the telecommunication firm and the reigning English Premier League champions, has the potentials of strengthening the growth of football in Africa.
“Globacom will continue to support football development in Nigeria and Africa. We have made huge investments into the development of the national teams, the clubs and the supporters clubs and our partnership with the leading club in the Premier League, Manchester United, brings our fans closer to their darling team.
“We are associated with Manchester United not just for the fun of it but because we want our fans to feel the impact of world football. One of the reasons we are partnering with United is to leverage on the club’s success to further develop the game in Africa.”, added Sangowawa.
He noted that Globacom intends to widen the scope of its relationship with the three-time UEFA Champions League winners, with a view to connecting more with fans in Africa.
“Before the end of this year, we will come out with a package that will surprise Africa’s football fans”, said Sangoiwawa.
Speaking later, Manchester United’s Associate Director, Communications and Relationship, Ricky Thussu said the club were proud to be associated with Globacom. He added that the relationship has afforded the team the opportunity to stay connected with football fans in Africa.
The high point of the event was the presentation of a souvenir and a signed branded Manchester’s jersey to the Chairman of Globacom, Dr. Mike Adenuga by Thusu, who said that Wayne Rooney autographed the jersey in recognition of Chief Adenuga’s contribution towards the development of football in Africa.
